Today was a first for the Homeschooling community in Florida, and I consider it a great indicator! Ag-Venture expos have been educating students from standard schools for quite a while at the Florida State Fairgrounds. Today’s was the first offering directly to homeschooling students for a low fee.
In short mini-sessions, Ag-Venture teaches students about Florida’s agriculture businesses, about their concerns, needs and their awesome results. Speakers share with students about pollinators, dairy cows, the Forestry service, horticulture and more! With the discussion comes a hands-on project. Many families busily made butter, chose insects for art, and hand-rolled candles at the Bee exhibit. There were too many to experience in one day!
I love that more industries see the value in offering classes to Florida’s homeschooling community. Families enjoy choice in education in Florida and more industries are responding to the various ways Florida’s families are educating. How about where you live? Are you seeing weekly meet-ups, art classes or monthly STEM classes? Remember your local libraries, YMCAs and FaceBook groups when searching for options.
